| HP Client Automation for further security – FREE |
HP Client Automation (HPCA) Starter* is a FREE software download (or alternatively, also available on DVD) which not only helps you manage your entire PC and thin client fleet, but allows you to better leverage the security that HP offers with our hardware. HPCA initialises the software associated with the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) chip, ProtectTools for Embedded Security.
For customers who require added security features & functionality from your PC management software, HPCA offers a number of alternative packages to choose from:
HP Client Automation Standard* includes Patch Management for the Windows OS to ensure your PC fleet security threat is kept to a minimum. If a patch, once deployed to a machine is deleted, it will automatically remediate that patch to ensure that the threat remains eliminated. Specifically, what this does is:
- Performs automated patch acquisition and packaging of operating system patches
- Continually detects vulnerabilities and updates reports showing which machines are at risk and require patches
- Deploys patches and continually verifies and assures the compliance of assigned patch levels, minimizing the risk of accidental removal, deletion and corruption of patches
HP Client Automation Enterprise^ is built on a model of desired-state automation. This means that IT defines the state it wants client devices to be in, and an agent on each device ensures that the image aligns to that desired state. It is a highly flexible model that optimises return on investment, and is designed for customers where operational efficiency and scalability are top priorities. This enterprise edition also provides the following additional features from a security compliance view point:
- provides vulnerability assessments on the PC based on OVAL (Open Vulnerability Assessment Language) and reports on the violations against the OVAL standard.
- provides a compliance assessments against industry benchmarks like FDCC (Federal Desktop Core Configuration), SCAP (Security Content Automation Protocol). This scan compliance against settings like OS settings, firewall settings on the PC, Internet browser settings.
- provides 3rd party security tools management in the sense that it can scan for whether antivirus, personal firewall, anti-spyware is installed, enabled, health of this tools, whether a anti-virus scan has been performed, whether the version of this 3rd party tools are updated on the PC.

| Benefits of refreshing your PC today |
If you’re looking to save money, investing in new HP Business Notebook PCs powered by Intel® Centrino® 2 with vPro™ technology is a great place to start. In a tough economy, everyone is looking for creative ways to conserve capital. At first glance, expanding the life of laptops may seem prudent. But when the total cost of maintaining systems over years comes into play, that short-term temptation may prove unprofitable.
There are four essential benefits of investing in new HP Business Notebooks:
- Spend smart. Old notebooks drain more power, slow staff down and can’t always handle the latest technologies. What’s more, 3-year-old PCs cost more to maintain than they do to replace.2
- Do more. A new HP Business Notebook with Intel® Centrino® 2 processor technology allows your customers to get more done in more places, run multiple applications much faster and work up to 51 minutes longer per day.3
- Be more secure. Notebook PCs older than three years are up to 53 per cent more vulnerable to security incidents. 1 New HP Notebook PCs with Intel® vPro™ technology are much more secure and can be patched and remediated remotely.
- Manage notebook PCs more efficiently. New HP Business Notebook PCs with Intel vPro technology can be managed remotely, enabling customers to save money by cutting desk-side support visits by up to 91%.4

4. Intel® vPro™ technology includes powerful Intel® Active Management Technology (Intel® AMT). Intel® AMT requires the computer system to have an Intel® AMT-enabled chipset, network hardware and software, as well as connection with a power source and a corporate network connection. Setup requires configuration by the purchaser and may require scripting with the management console or further integration into existing security frameworks to enable certain functionality. It may also require modifications of implementation of new business processes. With regard to notebooks, Intel® AMT may not be available or certain capabilities may be limited over a host OS-based VPN or when connecting wirelessly, on battery power, sleeping, hibernating or powered off. For more information, see http://www.intel.com/technology/platform-technology/intel-amt/index.htm Results shown are from the 2007 EDS Case Studies with Intel® vPro™ processor technology, by LeGrand and Salamasick, 3rd party audit commissioned by Intel, of various enterprise IT environments. The studies compare test environments of Intel® vPro™ processor technology equipped PCs vs non-Intel® vPro™ processor technology environments. Tested PCs were in multiple OS and power states to mirror a typical working environment. Actual results may vary. The study is available at www.intel.com/vpro and www.eds.com
This system may require upgraded and/or separately purchased hardware and/or a DVD drive to install the Windows 7 software and take full advantage of Windows 7 functionality. See http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/ for details.
