Device and data protection

There are practical steps you can take to protect your wireless devices and data in the event of theft or loss. Physical locks are an obvious deterrent. Other measures include personal identification numbers (PINs), biometric fingerprint verification, Smart Cards, timed lockouts and user passwords that protect sensitive information. Further protection is provided against data loss through quick and easy back-up and recovery facilities.

Network access and monitoring

Creation of a Virtual Private Network (VPN) ensures that
your network is protected from intrusion. It uses encryption
and tunnelling to transfer data securely on the Internet to
a remote-access VPN server.

For optimum network security, treat your wired and
wireless networks as a single network and apply security
equally. Enable an architecture where mobility and
security are addressed interdependently – so that security
is built in, not bolted on.

Push enforcement to the network edge where initial access
is occurring. The most effective security is enforced at the
LAN edge (e.g. access points, switches) before users are
allowed access to your network. Individual access controls
need to be easily scalable and adaptive.
